COME INTO THE ARK · 7:1-16GENESIS 7:1“Come into the ark,you and all your household”GENESIS 7:9“two by two theywent into the ark”God called Noah's family and the animals into the ark.

An invitation. “Come into the ark, you and all your household” (7:1). God did not just send Noah to the ark. He called him in, to safety. Why Noah? God said, “I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation” (7:1). Righteous means right with God. Genesis 6:8 shows how that began: “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” Grace is God's kindness that we do not earn. All of it. “And Noah did according to all that the Lord commanded him” (7:5). Noah did not obey only the easy parts. He trusted God with every detail. God cares for animals. Pairs of every kind came to Noah, and more of the clean animals and birds (7:2-3). God planned to fill the world with life again. Seven days. God waited seven more days before the rain began (7:4, 10). Peter says “the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah” (1 Peter 3:20). Longsuffering means patient for a long time. The door. “And the Lord shut him in” (7:16). God Himself closed the door. Noah was safe because God held him, not because Noah held the door. What this means for you. Jesus said, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved” (John 10:9). God still calls you to come to Him, and He keeps safe everyone who comes.

THE WATERS ROSE · 7:17-24GENESIS 7:17“The waters increasedand lifted up the ark”GENESIS 7:16“And the Lordshut him in”The water rose, and God kept the ark safe on top.

From below and above. “All the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened” (7:11). Water came from under the ground and from the sky. Only God could stop it. Lifted up. “The waters increased and lifted up the ark, and it rose high above the earth” (7:17). The same waters that judged the world carried the ark. No mountain high enough. “All the high hills under the whole heaven were covered” (7:19). The water stood fifteen cubits, more than twenty feet, above them (7:20). Nobody could climb high enough to escape. A real judgment. “And all flesh died that moved on the earth” (7:21). Before the flood, “the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth” (6:5). God is holy and fair, and sin is serious to Him. Only Noah. “Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark remained alive” (7:23). Standing near the ark did not save anyone. Being inside it did. A long time. “And the waters prevailed on the earth one hundred and fifty days” (7:24). Prevailed means stayed strong and won. Through the waters. God promises His people, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you” (Isaiah 43:2). What this means for you. God's judgment on sin is real, but He has made a safe place. Many Christians see Jesus in the ark: everyone who trusts Him is carried safely through.

GOD REMEMBERED NOAH · 8:1-14GENESIS 8:1“Then God remembered Noah”GENESIS 8:11“a freshly plucked olive leaf”God sent a wind, and the dove brought back an olive leaf.

God remembered. “Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that were with him in the ark” (8:1). This is our memory verse. In the Bible, when God remembers someone, He turns toward them and acts to help them. Every living thing. God remembered the animals too. Not one bird or sheep in the ark was forgotten. A wind. “And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided” (8:1). Subsided means went down. The same God who sent the flood ended it. Resting. “Then the ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat” (8:4). Ararat is a mountain region in what is now eastern Turkey. Waiting. Noah waited forty more days before he opened the window (8:6). He waited for God's timing instead of rushing. The raven and the dove. The raven kept “going to and fro” (8:7). The dove “found no resting place for the sole of her foot,” so Noah “put out his hand and took her” (8:9). The olive leaf. The next time, “a freshly plucked olive leaf was in her mouth” (8:11). Plants were growing again. It was a small sign of a big hope. What this means for you. When you are waiting and it feels like God has forgotten you, He has not. He sees you, and He is already working.

A NEW START · 8:15-22GENESIS 8:20“Then Noah built analtar to the Lord”GENESIS 8:22“Seedtime and harvest”Noah came out of the ark and worshiped God.

God said go. “Go out of the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons’ wives with you” (8:16). Noah went in when God said come, and he went out when God said go. Life again. God wanted the animals to “be fruitful and multiply on the earth” (8:17). He was filling His world with life again. Worship first. “Then Noah built an altar to the Lord” (8:20). Before he built a house or planted a field, Noah worshiped. An altar is a place to give offerings to God. A soothing aroma. “And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma” (8:21). God gladly accepted Noah's offering. Still sinful. God said “the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth” (8:21). The flood washed the earth, but it could not wash the human heart. Only Jesus can give us a new heart. A promise. “Nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done” (8:21). God answered sin with a promise of mercy. Seasons. “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease” (8:22). Seedtime is planting time. What this means for you. Every sunrise and every harvest is a sign that God keeps His word. Start each day by thanking Him, the way Noah did.

The problem. In Noah's day “the wickedness of man was great in the earth” (Genesis 6:5). After the flood God said the human heart was still “evil from his youth” (8:21). “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

Our efforts fail. No one could swim far enough or climb high enough when “all the high hills under the whole heaven were covered” (7:19). We cannot save ourselves by being good: “For by grace you have been saved through faith… not of works” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

God's rescue. God gave one ark with one door, and He has given one Savior. Jesus said, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved” (John 10:9).

The cross and the empty tomb. The flood beat against the ark, and the ark carried Noah through. At the cross, the judgment for our sin fell on Jesus. “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3:18). Then He rose again the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

The response. Noah believed God and went in (Hebrews 11:7). You can come to Jesus the same way: “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).

“Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that were with him in the ark.”
— Genesis 8:1 (NKJV)
💡 What This Verse Means

This verse comes right after one hundred and fifty days of water (7:24). Noah had been shut in the ark for months with no land in sight. “Then God remembered Noah”: God had not forgotten him for a moment. In the Bible, when God remembers someone, He turns toward them and acts to help. Here He sent a wind, and the waters began to go down. “And every living thing, and all the animals”: God's care reached every animal in the ark, even the smallest bird. If God remembers birds and cattle, He will surely remember you. “That were with him in the ark”: everyone God remembered was inside the safe place He had made. When you feel alone, or when you are waiting for God to answer a prayer, say this verse. Then put your own name in it: God remembered me. He sees you, He loves you, and He is already working for you, even before you can see it.
